New turmeric gets good demand in Erode.
Krishnamurthy a trader said, 2,900 bags including 600 bags of new turmeric arrived. The buyers have purchased all the new turmeric. They purchased all the medium variety old turmeric. The traders are expecting upcountry demand, now they are getting only local demand from masala firms and grinding units.
Regarding the price, finger variety old turmeric price was decreased by ₹750 a quintal in the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society and ₹100 decreased in the Regulated Marketing Committee. This drastic fall in price was due to the poor powder quality placed for sale. The buyers have purchased the same by quoting a decreased price for their orders received from powder grinding units. But, root variety old turmeric price was increased in all the markets by ₹100. The new turmeric price (both finger and root varieties) were increased by ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, new finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,608 to ₹7,588, root turmeric was sold at ₹5,899 to ₹7,209. Old finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,669 to ₹8,616, root variety was sold at ₹5,255 to ₹7,363. Of the total arrival of 2,043 bags of turmeric 1,085 bags were sold including the new turmeric.
