Russia Agri Sowing To Scale New Record Highs In 2017

According to Russia's Agriculture Ministry, the total crop planted area will exceed 80 Ml ha in 2017 for the first time in 15 years. It is expected at 80,104.4 Th ha, or 523.5 Th ha larger than in 2016 (79,580.9 Th ha. 

Spring planting is forecast on 52.7 Ml ha that is 98.8% of last year's acreage (53.3 Ml ha in 2016) due to a larger fall-sown area (up 302.6 Th ha from 2016) and optimized sunflower sowings (down 327.3 Th ha from last year).

Growers are going to sow spring cereals and pulses on an area of 31 Ml ha that is 99.3% of last year's 31.2 Ml ha.At the same time, they are predicted to plant more corn (3063.1 Th ha, up 169.9 Th ha), rice (211.3 Th ha, up 5.1 Th ha), oats (2967 Th ha, up 26.1 Th ha) and millet (493.3 Th ha, up 56.5 Th ha).
