Big Money Touts Esoteric Bets Over Traditional Stocks, Bonds

Gold, emerging market currencies, real estate in Europe and buying market insurance are some of the non-traditional bets hedge fund managers are making to earn returns at a time many investors are struggling and traditional stock and bond market bets look risky.


Gold held on to its losses early on Wednesday after falling 0.6 % the session before, with the dollar advancing versus the yen. 

 

                           FUNDAMENTALS 

* Spot gold was down 0.1% at USD 1,316.90 an ounce by 0105 GMT. 

 

* US gold futures eased 0.1 % to USD 1,321.90 an ounce.

* Holdings of SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, fell 0.47 % to 935.49 tonnes on Tuesday.
